Indonesia to hold international surfing championship

Indonesia will hold the West Java International Surfing Championship 2011 on June 12-18 in Cimaja Beach of Sukabumi regency, the country's largest news portal Detikcom Online News reported on Wednesday.

Four countries, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Japan, have confirmed their participation in the event.

Head of Tourism and Culture Division of West Java province Herdiwan said that the event is also aimed to introduce sport tourism potentials of the beach to foreign tourists.

"Cimaja beach has a 750 meter-coastal line with 1-2 meters of wave height while rocks lie along the beach," said Herdiwan.

He said that the 6 star-surfing competition event or the highest rank surfing is a part of Indonesia Surfing Championship and Asian Surfing Championship Tours joined by national and international surfers.
